The hoisting belt is by far the most popular item in our range. This lifting device is extremely user-friendly and applicable in many situations. As experts in hoisting and lifting, we would like to list the most important information for you in our 10 handy tips and tricks about hoisting belts!

Tips & Tricks | Lifting straps

Use a powerful lifting belt to save costs.

Basically, a lifting strap consists of high-quality fibers or threads. Polyester is used in manufacturing to ensure longevity and strength. This material makes the lifting strap flexible and at the same time enormously strong. By hoisting with a lifting strap, you do not damage the load and save space in storage. Maintenance and inspections are also easy to perform. Compared to steel hoisting equipment, the hoisting belt reduces risk, is much lighter in weight, not susceptible to rust and saves money.

Easily choose the correct lifting strap

The ideal thing about a lifting strap is that you can easily and quickly find the right one for your lifting job. The European color coding and the number of lines on the lifting strap indicate the maximum amount of tons that can be lifted (WLL). Each line represents one ton of workload. The Hijsjob range features lifting belts with a working load that varies between one ton (purple) and ten tons (orange). The wider and thicker the belt, the stronger it is. The length of a belt starts at half a meter and can go up to ten meters. Consider in advance what you will be hoisting and in what way. The WLL depends on the lifting position, as shown in the diagram to the right.

Use a lifting strap with lifting loops for convenient docking points.

In our range you will find lifting slings with loops and endless lifting slings. The flat endless lifting sling can be used in all typical lifting methods, such as vertical, strapped and in a u-shape, just like a lifting sling. Hoisting belts with a loop at the ends are by far the most popular type of hoisting belt, mainly because many shop floor employees are familiar with them. The loops form docking points, which makes their use very accessible.

Never use a lifting strap without an official label.

An approved lifting strap always has a label. According to NEN-EN-1492-1, the color of the label must indicate the type of material. It is important that the brand and instructions on the label are clearly legible and visible. It should definitely state: the WLL, the standard (EN-1492-1), the safety factor 7:1 and the CE marking. If any information is missing, the belt must not be used. In no case should you attach a label or any other object to the lifting strap yourself. Marking the webbing with ink or paint is also not allowed, as this can damage the material. The webbing will then be rejected.

Ensure proper word procedure.

First, you check whether the load can also be lifted with the lifting strap. You do this by checking the WLL on the label indicated. The maximum working load in the possible lifting positions and lifting angles of the lifting strap is also indicated on it. Make sure you always follow the information provided on the label and in the instruction manual.

Always inspect thoroughly before use.

A lifting strap should always be inspected before use. During the inspection, you check that the label is present and legible. You also make sure that there are no abrasions and cuts present. We recommend taking the lifting sling out of service immediately if it fails the inspection on one or more points.

Certify your lifting belts and have them inspected in a timely manner.

Purchasing a hoisting belt certified ensures you are insured in case of accidents. Inspections with certification are also usually more economical than inspections for products without certification. The advantage is that when you purchase a certificate, you can keep track of the current inspection status in our digital certification system free of charge. Hoisting belts from our range from four tons upwards are provided with a certificate free of charge. We also recommend that you have all your hoisting belts re-inspected in a timely manner by an expert inspector. During a re-inspection, the condition of the hoisting sling is recorded and on the basis of this, it is assessed whether the hoisting sling can be used during the period until the next inspection. The re-inspection must be done according to the EKH working regulations.

Use your lifting belt how it’s supposed te be used.

When hoisting with a lifting strap, it should never have a knot in it. Also prevent the lifting strap from twisting around the load, as this can cause damage. Damage to the label is prevented by positioning the loop with label in the hook. To further facilitate the use of the lifting strap, you can use a lifting strap shackle or a lifting strap hook. With sharp edges on the load, we recommend using a cut-resistant strap. You will not find this in our standard web shop assortment, but this item can be supplied on request.

Store the lifting strap properly for safe and long-term use.

To ensure that you get the longest possible use out of your lifting sling, proper storage is essential. Never store a lifting sling outside. Weather conditions and temperatures can affect the lifting strap. Never leave the lifting strap on the ground or in an environment where a lot of dirt such as grease or debris can corrode the tool. By using a storage box, safely store lifting slings out of reach of UV light.

Ask advice to an expert.

We recommend that you always seek advice from an expert when you are not sure how to handle a lifting situation or when in doubt about the condition of your lifting equipment.
