A beam clamp is used as a temporary attachment point during lifting operations. Beam clamps are versatile in use and easy and quick to mount on different types of beams.

Unlike a beam clamp, a trolley is not a fixed attachment point. Because trolleys are equipped with steel wheels, they can be moved over the beam after mounting. This can be done by using a chain or by pulling/pushing of the load. In combination with an electric hoist or chain block, this creates extra flexibility in lifting operations. For extra safety, trolleys should be equipped with wheel break supports and a wind-up safety device.

If you want to create a 'stop' on a beam, for example, to ensure that the trolley can only move within a certain range, you can use a crane stop. They are also often used to prevent the trolley from riding off the beam or hitting a wall.
