Tips & Tricks | How to lift safely

Safety in the workplace is and will continue to be a hot topic and it takes precedence. Hoisting and lifting are the most risky operations in work situations. Unfortunately, numerous serious accidents occur every year. Unnecessary we think, because with the right knowledge and materials you create the conditions to work safely. We would like to give you four tips on how to make safe hoisting and lifting a matter of course.

Tip 1: Make safety a subject of speech

It is not always easy, but open the conversation about safety and be critical of the actions of yourself and your colleagues. By working together and making good agreements, you limit many risks. In all the hustle and bustle, you may overlook risks, or worse, accept them. Do you have doubts about safety in a situation or about whether you can still use lifting equipment with minor damage? Warn your colleagues and do not take unnecessary risks.

Tip 2: Lift responsible

Sometimes there are difficult circumstances that involve moving complicated and heavy materials. First check carefully whether what you are going to lift or hoist is possible with the equipment you are going to use. There is always a maximum allowable load listed on your lifting equipment. Do not exceed this limit and remember that the unit you are lifting is never stronger than the weakest part. Always read the instruction manual before use.

Tip 3: Certify your lifting gear on time

Inspection of lifting equipment has been mandatory since the last century. They must be regularly inspected by experts. This does not guarantee that the equipment always meets the standards. In the meantime, something can be damaged. When in use, you should always perform a visual inspection. Are rust spots visible? Do you see cracks or other signs of wear? And are the electronic controls working properly? We recommend getting your lifting equipment inspected on time. If the deadline is missed and an accident occurs, there can be serious consequences.

Tip 4: Work with safe material

When lifting and hoisting safely, the materials are very important. So make sure you protect them properly when there are sharp corners on the load, for example. Never use damaged chains and auxiliary materials and try to avoid twisting in chains, lifting belts or steel slings. This will keep the load stable in place.
