Tips & Tricks | Hand Chain Hoist

A hand chain hoist is applicable for many situations, but what do you pay attention to when putting one into use? You can read all about it in this blog.

Tips & Tricks | Hand Chain Hoist

Applicability

A chain hoist can be used for many applications. You always use them upright and vertically. Do you need a hoist that can be used both vertically and horizontally? For example, when towing or tensioning. Then choose a ratchet hoist. Mitari chain hoists are easy to use due to optimal transmission. This makes operation easy and light.

Design

The hand chain hoists feature a swivel hook, on both top and bottom. The high-quality materials ensure an extra-long service life. Hand chain hoists are available in various designs with working loads of 250 kg to as much as 20,000 kg. In many cases manual chain hoists are used in combination with trolleys or beam clamps..

Overload protection

Our range comprises two types of chain hoists: with and without overload protection. An overload safety device prolongs the service life of the hoist and also reduces repair costs because overloading is not possible. Adjusting the overload safety device and adjusting the hoisting height (hoisting chain and load chain) is carried out in our own workshop.

Check before starting

Before each use, it is important that the hoist, suspension, supporting structure and possible additional options have been checked for any defects. The brakes should work and the loads to be lifted should not exceed the maximum of the hoist structure. You can check all this by lifting and lowering a load a short distance, for example. Before use, the load chain should also be inspected for proper lubrication, deformation, cracks, wear and corrosion attack. Also check the operating chain before use, it always has a "mounted open link" in connection with custom mounting. It is also important to check both the upper and lower hook for corrosion and other damage. Of course, the safety valve must work properly.

Ensure that the chain can run freely through the hoist and that the welds of the chain are facing outward. Hand chain hoists must also be tested annually by an expert. So also check that the hoist is approved before use. If the hoist is not approved, in case of doubt or defects, please contact us directly for an inspection in our workshop. View the inspection deadlines for your hoist here.

Correct use

  •  On the chain hoist, the capacity is listed (WLL). This is the maximum load that must not be exceeded.
  •  Hoisting or transporting loads should be avoided as long as there are persons in a dangerous range of the hoist.
  •  It is not permitted to be under a hoisted load.
  •  Loads may not remain in the hoisted condition for long periods of time without supervision.
  •  As a user, you may only move a load if you are satisfied that the load is properly hooked up or that no persons are in the danger area.
  •  When suspending the hoist, the user must ensure that the hoisting device can be operated in such a way that no danger is posed by the device itself, the wearer or the load.
  •  The device can be operated within a temperature range of -10 degrees and +50 degrees Celsius. Please contact in case of extreme conditions.
  •  At temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, check the brake for freezing.
  •  Never load the hooks on the tip.
  •  Welding on parts is prohibited. The load chain must not be used as earth in welding operations.
  •  Always work in a straight line between both hooks.
  •  Do not use the load chain as a sling chain.
  •  Do not hoist or transport persons.
  •  Do not knot or shorten the load chain.

Deliverable also with certificate

Certificates can be purchased with a single product for an additional €3.50. With a valid certificate you are always insured in case of accidents. We therefore recommend having all your lifting equipment and other equipment certified and to have them re-inspected in time, for the safety of the user(s). Inspections with certification are usually more economical than inspections for products without certification. This allows us to easily see the history of a product with certification and also makes the scheduling process of an inspection all the faster.
