Every month we highlight a product; this month the chain hoist. For many companies an indispensable lifting device on the shop floor, so it's time we paid more attention to it. So what is important when using it? And how do you move loads safely? We would like to explain this to you!
Maximum allowable load
The chain hoist is an ideal lifting device in situations where loads need to be moved vertically. First of all, it is of course important that you are allowed and able to lift your load with a chain hoist. The maximum permissible load can range from 250 kg to 20,000 kg and is always stated on the certificate, among other things. If you overload a chain hoist, this can cause unsafe situations, parts can break or deform, for example, or direct danger of falling.
Secure use
Moving people around leads to dangerous situations and is therefore prohibited. In case a chain hoist is damaged or should no longer be used, it is wise to label it immediately making it clear that it can no longer be used in the business process.
Inspect
By timely testing and inspecting your hoisting equipment, unsafe chain hoists can be intercepted in time. Before each use, always inspect your hoisting equipment for proper lubrication, deformations, cracks, wear and corrosion, among other things. An expert can inspect and maintain hoisting equipment, extending its life and helping you prevent any problems in time. Chain hoists must be inspected annually.
